  1. I learned that the families that hid some of their papers and other thing in books and things. What stood out to me, was the amount of books they had. I imagine that life back then would be very boring and hectic because they were always fighting because they were always together.

  2. I learned that all of the rooms were very close together, and the Van Pels room was the kitchen/living room. I originally thought the whole annex was open and on one floor, but after looking at this, I learned that the annex was very close and tight. A thing that stood out to me was how many books they had because that is all they could do during the day since they had to be quiet. I imagine life would have been crazy because you have to be worried about getting caught all the time.

  3. I learned that all of the families had their own rooms, and each room was connected to the next, instead of one small area that had been sectioned off. It really stood out to me how the families seemed to take joy in things that they hadn't before, such as Anne being comforted by the nature outside: a chestnut tree. I would think that life there would always either be extremely suspenseful, or overly boring, with no in between, because the family would be worried about getting caught constantly, or there was nothing to do at all during the day.

  4. Some new information I learned was, before seeing the actual bookcase covering the door it was hard to imagine but it's amazing how hidden the door was. I also learned that Margo was very into her studies and kept to herself while Anne was just the opposite she was very lively and energetic. I also noticed how they had a lot of books because the whole they couldn't even talk so I would imagine life might get a little boring but it's better than going to the concentration camps. I also learned that each family had their own little room and how the Franks were downstairs in the hallway and the other family was up the stairs.

  5. Having to go into hiding at the age of thirteen would have been so hard it's unimaginable. Some things I learned about the secret annex that I did not know before was that everyone had different, separated rooms. Before, I thought they all were sharing rooms. I also did not know the size of the secret annex. It was a lot bigger than I expected and actually, quite roomy. As depressing going to hiding might have been, at least they weren't stuck in closets like others. What stood out to me in this walk through was the bookcase. It was so clever and you couldn't see the door at all. The restroom also stood out to me for the reason of it being so small and the fact that they could only go at specific times. Life then would've been really boring and scary at the same time. Scary for the reason that they will never know if they'll live to get out or if the Nazi's would find them.

  6. I learned that Anne actually fell in love with Peter, that she named her diary Kitty, that people actually broke into the warehouse on a couple occasions. Something that stood out to me was that Anne took joy and comfort by nature especially the chestnut
tree. Before they went into hiding Anne never really wanted to go outside, but now that they went into hiding, she longs to go outside again and she can't wait until the war is over. Going into hiding would be horrific. My family would cause me to lose my insanity, I wouldn't be able to stay quiet for so long, I would enjoy reading, and since I usually eat a lot, I would die because I wouldn't be able to eat as much as I want when I want. I would probably end up strangling one of my family members. Life then would be scary because I would never know if the day would be my last or if I would be too loud and someone would find us and rat us out to the Nazis.

  7. Living in the secret annex would be difficult for many reasons. Each of the rooms were close to one another, leaving each of the occupants to have no personal space. They eventually would lose patience, and want to escape. However, the severe conditions wouldn't allow them to leave. The hallways were narrow and they had to be hidden behind a bookcase in case of wanderers. Life in secrecy and hiding would be the hardest thing for a teenage girl who just wants to have fun and live through her best years, instead of fear.

  8. At age 13, I can't stay in one room for more than two hours. Now add horrible living conditions, and seven other people. I would die! I didn't realize it was that small of areas. The dentist sounds like a pest, and so does Peter. The fact that there was no television or video games sounds unbearable now a days. My family alone would be enough, and we only have seven in our family. Now I cannot take my mom seriously when she complains how our water pressure isn't strong enough. I'll admit, I would stay there, but I wouldn't interact with others very well.

  9. What stood out to me was how small space they had to live in. As of right now i could not live there for 2 years. I learned that how hidden and normal the bookshelf look. Also staying still for six to eight hours every day would not be good.

  10. Something that I thought was interesting was how many people were staying inside the annex. I thought at first there were only Anne's family hiding there, but I soon realized there were way more. The thing that stood out to me the most about the secret annex was how small it was. I originally thought it was more open, but after reading this I can tell that it was very close and tight. No one would really have their own space or have a lot of room to move around. They would also have to be quiet over half of the day, in fear that they would all get caught.

  11. Having to live in the secret annex for me, would have been awful. No television, cell phones, or even video games, I wouldn't have been able to stand it. Also, living like this for so long and the fact that they had to live with so many people is just insane! Some things that stood out to me were how small the rooms were and that they couldn't move or even talk for so many hours. I can honestly say living like that after a while, I would probably go crazy!

  12. What stood out to me the most was how small the annex was. I thought they would have more space to move around but they did not really have their own space. I would not be able to stay quiet for six to eight hours every day in fear that we might get caught. You wouldn't be able to go outside ever because there was a big chance you could get caught. I would also hate living with all those people in such a tight space.

  13. Something that I thought was interesting was how small the annex actually was. They must of dread living in there for two years. They didn't have television, computers, cell phones, or video games. What stood out to me was that I though that they would of killed each other before being found with that many people in such a small space. If I even survived the Holocaust, after it I would be changed on living a regular life. I wouldn't remember how to do anything and I wouldn't be very social after that.

  14. I learned from the Site many different things. One for example is how small the annex was and how long every person in it had to stay quiet. What stood out to me was the amount of objects and space there was and how hard it must have been for them to move. Life there must have been horrible because you have to share a small place where everyone is cranky for not being able to move and also uncomfortable because they could barely go to the bathroom room and they couldn't flush or run water for most of the day. So life there would be bad.

  15. The Anne Frank site showed me many things about the cramped living space in the anex. It was probably very hard to concentrate on reading or studying and only that for a long time. If one of the kids had to ask a question they would have to sneak over to one of the adults and write it on a piece of paper or the adult would have to go to them. The residents also had some cabin fever. Anne said in the diary that she didn't care too much about going outside, but when they were in the secret annex for a long time she wanted to leave. Not to mention they all probably had something they wanted that wasn't necessary, but was something to pass the time like the radio. It would have been very hard to stay in one small area for how long they did and be quiet at the same time.

  16. Something that was new information to me was that their hiding spot was only 75 cubic meters big. Also Otto and his brothers had to fight for German in world war one. The annex they stayed at was very well hidden and staying quiet all day would be very hard for any 13 year old right now. Life would be very hard to understand at that age and trying to figure out what is going outside of your building everyday.

  17. What stood out to me was the size of the annex. I thought it was alot smaller. It's not the biggest space, but it was bigger than what most people had. I would not have been able to stay sane though. I wouldnt be able to not go outside or read and stay silent for 8 hours a day. If I was Anne I would also not be able to share a room with an old man that made noises at night. It would be a bad life to stay in hiding 24 hours a day.

  18. I don't think I could stand what Ann and her family had to deal with. They lived in a very small and tight area, but it was a lot bigger than I thought. The kitchen was really big and so was the attic. What stood out to me was how small Peter's room was. It reminded me of Harry Potter under the staircase. Also having to be quiet for the majority of the day would be really hard for me. I'm just to hyper. Ann would have to be pretty mentally strong to stay sane in that little space, and I realize now how bad the Holocaust really was.

  19. It would be so hard to live with that kind of lifestyle for 2 years. The annex was bigger than I thought.I figured that they probably didn't have a lot of decorations or anything like that but Anne`s room had pictures on the wall and the kitchen had a lot of things in it..Also I would not be able to stay quiet for that long of a time. Before I read the diary or saw the movie, I didn't know that Anne and her sister had to do schoolwork and learn lessons everyday.Life would be pretty boring and hard.I definetly wouldn't be able to stay in hiding for that long.

  20. I always thought the bookshelf stayed on the wall and slid to the side not to open like a door.life would have been hard staying in a close and tight space for 2 years I discovered that it was not just 2 floors but 4 and it would be hard going up and the stairs in the middle of the day when you are suppose to be quiet..

  21. What stood out to me was how big the annex actually was. I found out that it actually was more than one floor. I imagine life there was very rough considering they had to be with the same people for years in a confined space. Also, they had almost nothing to do during the day except school work since they couldn't talk or move. I'm sure it was pretty boring. I would of gone crazy.

  22. I discovered how big the annex actually was. It was very tiny, but a lot bigger than I had imagined. I pictured it as a one big open room with many doors, but it was a series of doors leading from one room to another. I also learned it was more than one floor. It would be very hard to live in such a confined space with so many people. Not being able to move for 8+ hours would have been incredibly hard since there weren't many thing for them to do back then.

  23. I thought it was interesting,I mean 8 people in that small little room? It really put perspective on how rough their life was. I would be claustrophobic! Oh, and also being stuck in there not doing anything would be agony! I expected the annex to have one floor, how i pictured it in the book. Also reading books all day would be terrible. I guess we have it good, we don't have to hide from people, we have electronics that make our life easier, and we get protection from our nations army.

  24. If I was stuck in an area the size of the secret annex for two years, no doubt I would have lost part of my sanity especially considering there were other people with me too. I'm surprised they somehow kept occupied. I love reading but can't only do that for 8 hours a day for two years. I'm sad they got discovered. They were so close to liberation. Thank you Otto frank for publishing Anne's diary so we won't forget the holocaust.
